Teacher and Principal in Ferris, TX. ISD. Appointed Assistant Superintendent and Acting Superintendent, a first for African Americans in Texas. Developed the Master Plan for desegregation. Director of Prairie View College (University) Extension Program enabling hundreds of educators to advance their careers. School named in her honor.

High school English teacher in Dallas ISD, Teacher of the Year (1995), winner of the Golden Apple Award, became a Meadows Fellow Intern and earned her Ed.D. in Educational Adm. Named Assoc. Commissioner for Special Populations at TEA (Austin), elected Assistant Supt. and first African American Chief of Staff in Dallas ISD,

DR. HERMAN L. HOLLAND

Began his career in Dallas at Booker T. Washington High School in 1926, He was an exceptional scholar, mentor and community volunteer. In 1941, his last year at Washington, he led his basketball team to the first Black State Championship. He worked in DISD 44 years, served as Principal for 33 years at Frazier, Wheatley, George W. Carver, Colonial and Lincoln High. He served as the first chair, United Negro College Fund in Dallas in 1943 and was an active member of Big Brothers of America and the Moorland YMCA School named in his honor.

Worked in Greenville and Richardson School Districts. He served with distinction as Principal of Hamilton Park Eleementary School and The Pacesetter Program, a voluntary approach to desegre- gation, approved by the Federal Judge. Became Interim President of Jarvis College, Vice Pres., Coordinator of Church Relations and Alumni Affairs.

Employed in Dallas ISD for thirty-eight years as teacher, coach, Federal Programs Coordinator, Assist. Principal, Principal and first Black Athletic Director. DISD Athletic stadium named in his honor. He became Athletic Director for Paul Quinn College, appointed interim Vice President, Interim President and CEO. Inducted in the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame.

The Honorable Mavis Knight has spent a lifetime contributing to education and her community beginning teaching at the middle school level, college teaching and currently in her eleventh year as a member of the Texas State Board of Education.

PRISCILLA MCGAUGHEY

Teacher, Principal. Administrative Assistant to Assistant Superintendent (EOC), Assistant Supt. and Executive Director. The Early Childhood Program in DISD was the creation of Mrs. McGaughey and became the model for other Dallas ISD Schools. She established the first 10 Pre-K classes in DISD, implemented “Open Classroom” and “Team-Teaching”.

Began his career in Dallas ISD at H.S. Thompson and served as Scout Master , Troup #165, recognized as the largest Troup in the USA. Held several Central Staff positions including Director of Accountability, Assistant Director of Special Programs, and Director of Chapter I. Established the Central Parent Advisory Council. It became a model for the National Advisory Council. Leading founder of the TX. Parent Coordinating Council, Co-Founder of Compensatory Ed. of TX (ACET). Became Principal of Fannie C. Harris and Joseph J. Rhoads

Began his teaching career at B. T. Washington. Served the Dallas ISD in many positions: Intern, Administrative Specialist, Assistant Principal; Principal-Roberts Elem., Edison Environmental Science Academy, and Roosevelt H.S.; Director, Office of Student Responsibility; Director, Dallas County Juvenile Justice Alternative Ed. Program; Director, Pinnacle Family Programs (Southwest Housing).

DR. ANN WILLIAMS

Taught in Dallas ISD and Richardson ISD. Established the first Dance Department at Bishop College and collaborated with the Music and Theater Departments to form the Fine Arts Lyceum. The College and community were culturally enriched by perfor-mances presented by the Lyceum. As Founder and Artistic Director of Dallas Black Dance Theater (DBDT), it has become a full professional company performing nationally and inter-nationally with its home in the Dallas Arts District.
