(DALLAS, TX)On April 6, the African American Education Archives and History Program held its annual induction ceremony for eight Hall of Fame educators. Also celebrated were three community leaders, six student scholarship awardees and two outstanding young educators (under 40 years of age) during an event held at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel.

Brown, Regina Jones, Delia Lyons, Vickie Mitchell, the late Michael Palmer who was represented by nephew Dionte Miller, Roosevelt Vaughn Jr., and Dr. Jennifer Wimbish. Receiving the Trailblazer award was Journalist Norma Adams-Wade. Rev. Dr. Frederick Douglass Haynes III and Dr. Harry Robinson Jr. were honored with the Presidential Award.

The AAEAHP Educators’ Hall of Fame identifies and recognizes educators and others for outstanding contributions to the educational experiences of African Americans in Dallas County. Inductees are historical and contemporary.  Since 2004, one hundred and eighty-three individuals have been inducted into the AAEAHP Hall of Fame and 38 special awards have been presented recognizing outstanding members of the community.

“The 2024 AAEAHP Hall of Fame Program was one of the best,” said AAEAHP President Dr. Alfred L. Roberts Sr.  “Over 30 former Hall of Fame inductees and family members of inductees representing the classes of 2004-2023 participated in the processional kicking off the program. This was a first-time feature of the program,” he said.

In addition to celebrating the honorees, scholarships were awarded to six high school students. Since 2015, AAEAHP has awarded over $70,000 to students from Dallas County to help them attend college and become educators. You can donate to the scholarship fund at aaeahp.org > Donate > Contributions.

Zene’ Appiah-Amaning of Justin F. Kimball High School and Dwayne Dorsey Jr. of James Madison High School were honored as Outstanding Young Educators.
