MILDRED NEWTON FINCH

Teacher at John Q. Adams in Dallas ISD. Also served as math teacher who excelled at reaching students who struggled in the subject. Began teaching career at Tuskegee Institute, later taught in Dallas ISD at Carver ES, James Madison and Pinkston high schools, before teaching at El Centro College where she was the first African American professor and chair of the math department. She taught calculus and other upper level math courses. Mildred Finch Endowed Scholarship established; learning center founded at the college named in her honor.
