Patty Bates-Ballard: Securing Resources, Inspiring Service, Strengthening Community

The AAEAHP thanks Ms. Patty Bates-Ballard for her continued service to the organization in securing grant funds for various initiatives. Bates-Ballard is a speaker, educator, mediator, and writer. She is the author of the books ACE-ing Conflict and Judgment or Joy? She is the CEO of WordSmooth, a firm specializing in helping organizations and teams communicate more effectively across differences, and developer of the Harvest Respect program. Patty’s Harvest Respect program supports school districts, police departments, corporations, governmental agencies, and nonprofit organizations. A volunteer for the African American Museum of Dallas and Dallas CORE and a member of National Association for Community Mediation, Patty received BA degrees in Psychology and Philosophy/Religion from Austin College.

She has been instrumental in writing and securing grants for the African American Education Archives and History Program from the following agencies:

  • Humanities Texas
  • The Dallas Foundation
  • Communities Foundation of Texas
  • Summerlee Foundation


Patty is the proud mother of two sons, Kory and Kaden, who continue to inspire her every day.
