The Cassandra L. Black Achievement Award stands as a prestigious annual scholarship, presented each December to commemorate the remarkable life and influence of Black, an iconic leader within the Greek community. Serving as President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated from 1999 to 2003, Ms. Black represented Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. with distinction. Her tenure was characterized by inspiring leadership and a steadfast commitment to empowering collegiate women. This award is dedicated to recognizing a female undergraduate member of the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Dallas (NPHC) who demonstrates exemplary academic achievement, service, and leadership—qualities that defined Ms. Black’s legacy. By celebrating her contributions, the scholarship continues to motivate and uplift future leaders within the sorority community.

Inducted into the AAEAHP Educators Hall of Fame in 2025, Cassandra devoted her entire career to education within Dallas ISD. Beginning as a classroom teacher, she went on to serve as English Department Chairperson and was named Teacher of the Year at North Dallas High School. Later, as Director of Certification/Employee Relations, she played a pivotal role in hiring qualified educators and ensuring district compliance with No Child Left Behind standards—efforts that led to Dallas ISD’s “Recognized” status by the Texas Education Agency. Ms. Black’s influence extends beyond her professional accomplishments. A Life Member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and the 31st National President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, she has been a guiding force for unity and excellence in the Greek community.
Most recently, the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. of Dallas honored Ms. Black with the Distinguished Council Parliamentarian Award. This recognition celebrates her outstanding service, leadership, and dedication to strengthening her council and community—embodying the highest ideals of the NPHC. Through her enduring legacy, Cassandra L. Black continues to inspire generations to pursue excellence and serve with purpose.
