“This inaugural Free Throw Challenge was indeed a HUGE success! Thank you, Dr. Larry Lewis, for bringing this novel idea to the African American Education Archives and History Program (AAEAHP). For the past couple of days, I have received numerous calls, emails, texts, and donations from various individuals expressing how much they enjoyed this activity. Many are already asking about next year’s event. I, too, am looking forward to next year with excitement and anticipation that it will be even bigger and more fun than this, our inaugural event. The thing that struck me most at this event was seeing the ‘more mature’ generation, the young adults, and the children all participating and having fun together. It was truly an activity that included the entire family! I believe this will prove to be our annual “signature” event!
I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to everyone who participated in this event, whether you donated your time, talent, money, snacks, sponsored someone’s free throw shots, attended the event, provided the souvenir gold pens (Ethel Snowden), or just said a prayer and wished us well, I THANK YOU! To the Free Throw Challenge Planning Committee, thank you for hanging in there with me through all the planning sessions and the logistics of seeing this through. I appreciate each of you! We could not have pulled this off without you-THANK YOU!”
